Welcome to the 381st Bombardment Group (Heavy) Memorial Association web site. The 381st was a B-17 Flying Fortress unit based at Ridgewell, England, Station 167, as part of the mighty Eighth Air Force from 1943 to 1945.
The memorial association is for all elements of the 381st Bombardment Group, its squadrons, and the commands of the 432nd Air Service Group. Our 850+ members are comprised of 381st WWII veterans, their descendants, and friends of the 381st. The association celebrated the 35th annual reunion in 2011 and is scheduled to meet again in 2012 in Dayton Ohio from Aug 1-5, 2012
Please see the Association page for details on how you can join us.
I've added 343 images to a Medal Ceremonies gallery. See Gallery > Medal Ceremonies.
In most cases we know the presenting officer, and the medal being awarded. There are only a few images where we know who is being awarded. If you can help identifiy any of these men please let us know via the contact page.
The gallery is sorted by award date. By examining the war diaries you can probalby get a list of names for each award date.
Unlike other galleries, these images have not been processed for perspective issues, tone balance, and other fixable image issues. There's just too many of them at this time. I'll eventually get them processed.
