Unidentified aircraft of the 381st BG - Uncle Sammy

[Back to Unidentified]

This is an olive drab B-17F with the artwork of "Uncle Sammy". Note the flush cheek gun modification. If you can provide any further details on this aircraft please e-mail "noseart@381st.org".

Solved: David Knight, grandson of Hubert A. Goss, reports that "Uncle Sammy" was originally named "Iris". As the story goes, the pilot broke up with Iris, and the word "Uncle" is painted over "Iris". Great story!
