881st CHEMICAL COMPANY (AIR OPERATIONS)
Unit History 1945

JANUARY 1945

1. The Detachment performed the usual camp duties during the month.
2. The following were promoted: Pvts Howard A. Peckens (35332211), William A. Rowan (32486605) and Sam S. Stevens (38464211) to Pfc; Pfc Paul K. Trittipo promoted to T/5 temporary.
3. Pfc John S. Pekala (34280655) reduced to Pvt.
4. The following changes took place among personnel: 2nd Lt Gene S. Sarli transferred to 535th Bomb Sqd; these EM were transferred to 12th Reinforcement Depot, APO 551: Pfc Steve Arway, Pvt Raymond F. Roy, Pvt Herman R. Welch.
5. This Detachment was re-organised and designated Detachment' A' " 881st Chem. Co. under TO and E 3-457 WD, dd 1 January.
6. Incendiaries were loaded on four missions during the month.
7. Three photographs of Detachment A with roster showing home addresses, were made available, along with three photographs of the previous assigned officers of the unit: L-R: 2nd Lt Gene S. Sarli, 1st Lt Juette 0. Renalds (present CO) and 2nd Lt Roy L. Alley (present adjutant).

FEBRUARY

1. The usual camp duties were performed by this detachment.
2. The following were promoted: T/5s Albert W. Hirsch, John D. Leahy and Ralph W. Sanders to Cpl; Pvts Wendle L. Arnett, George H. Bickell, Edmund H. Breedlove, Paul A. Pietrowski, Henry C. Siceloff to Pfc.
3. The following 7th Station Complement Sqd EM were assigned this detachment: Sgt (566) Anthony Baptist (13046815), Cpl Otho W. Whest (35479356), Pvt Hennan E. Hoffman (33566625).
4. The following were reclassified: Cpl Richard W. Brown, Cpl Edward K. Gliem, T/5 Donald Whitely, T/5 Willie D. Wood, Pfc Donald R. McCormick, Pvt John S. Pekala from 345 to 786; T/5 Darrell W. Binkley, T/5 Paul F. Hajnes from 786 to 050; Cpl Albert W. Hirsch from 835 to 786; T/5 John J. Hopper from 786 to 055; Pfc Meredith C. Barron from 405 to 786; Pfc John P. St John 590 to 786.
5. T/5 Darrell W. Binkley attended Ammunition School at AAF Station #590.
6. Incendiaries were loaded on eight missions during the month.

MARCH

1. The Detachment performed the usual camp duties during the month.
2. The following were promoted: Pvts Joseph S. Ciampi, Joseph F. Cossello, Michael Fedow, Herman E. Hoffman. John S. Pekala to Pfc.
3. The following were transferred from 381st BG to this unit: Sgt (055) Lott D. Tennant (16008389), Sgt (078) George J. Heinsen (19122003), Pfc (070) James A. Tucker (38264218), Pvt (590) Paul E. Stone (35247624), Pvt (590) Michael M. Storelli (42058801), Sgt (870) Frank C. Dawson (31097493).
4. The following were reclassified: T/5 Paul K. Trittipo, T/5 Quellen M. Keith.
5. T/5 Dwight W. Bishop and Cpl Richard W. Brown attended Ammunition School at AAF Station # 590; S/Sgt Edward C. Kollmann attended Army Information Education Course.
6. Incendiaries were loaded on 14 missions during the month.

APRIL

1. The Detachment performed the usual camp duties during the month.
2. The following were promoted: Pvts Michael F. Patrick, Alvin N. Silverman, Paul E. Stone to Pfc.
3. The following were transferred to 12th Reinforcement Depot, APO #557: Cpl Edward K. Gliem, Pfc Wendle L. Arnett, Pfc Stanley I Ganski, Pfc Donald R. McCormick. Pfc John S. Pekala. Pfc Paul A. Pietrowski, Pvt William A. Rowan (all 786).
4. Ist Lt Gene S. Sarli and Ist Sgt Robert N. Norris (16011286) transferred from 534th BS back to this detachment
5. Cpl Thomas P. Flaherty and T/5 Walter A. McCullough were killed in a B-17 crash on the Isle of Man while flying as furlough passengers to Belfast, N. Ireland.
6. A formal inspection by the Base Commander, Lt Col Conway S. Hall with the presentation of the Bronze Star to T/Sgt LaGeorge G. Wheeler.
7. Sgt Anthony Baptist attended Ammunition School for two weeks.
8. Incendiaries were loaded on four missions during the month.
