Aircraft Continuing the 381st Tradition

Today there are approximately fourteen B-17's in flying condition throughout the world. Two of these remarkably restored aircraft bear the markings of the 381st Bomb Group -- they are "Yankee Lady" and "Texas Raiders".

Group secretary, Joe Waddell, encourages all 381st BGMA members to get out to these airshows and introduce themselves to the crews. They'd love to meet you at their stops!

"Texas Raiders" displayed as B-17G #44-83872 ( VP-X). Visit the web site for this magnificant aircraft - Gulf Coast Wing, Confederate Air Force, Houston, Texas.

"Yankee Lady" displayed as a 534th squadron B-17G #44-85829 (GD-Y). Visit the web site for this magnificant aircraft - Yankee Air Force, Ypisilanti, Michigan.

There is one aircraft on static display bearing 381st BG colors.  This aircraft is displayed at the Air Mobility Command Museum, Dover AFB, Delaware, as 533rd squadron B-17G #42-107112 "Sleepy Time Gal" (VE-O).

The "Sleepy Time Gal" nose art has been reproduced on this restoration, although it should be noted that the original aircraft was a bare aluminum airframe, not painted olive drab.  Never the less, it's still great to see.
